For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to study at a British university and before I applied I researched different options - I considered different universities and programs.
Now I'm in my first year of a biochemistry program at a university, so why did I choose this particular university? First of all, I was looking for a specific program, which was not available at some other universities, or were available, but with unsuitable subject requirements for me. In choosing the university it was important to me that the university was easy to get to, so the convenient location - 20 minutes by car - and, of course, the ability to quickly get to central London by train from the station near the university played a role.
When I arrived on campus, the reality even exceeded my expectations! The university has a stunningly beautiful campus, lots of green areas around it, and picturesque surroundings. The campus itself is pretty small quiet, surrounded mostly by residential two-story houses, and off campus it's hard enough to find anything to do for fun. Some people like places that are noisier and more fun, but for me personally it was a great solution - you can get away from the hustle and bustle and concentrate fully on your studies. I am very happy with the program I chose. The university has well-equipped laboratories where practical work takes place every week. There we do very interesting things that I had no opportunity to do before - for example, synthesizing aspirin. I was surprised by the presence of very modern and "advanced" apparatuses and devices, which, indeed, inspire further research and study.
The professors in my course are practitioners - they are as immersed in their subject as possible, you can see how much they love their business, and I think this is the main thing - such professors can easily captivate anyone. The lectures are like a blink of an eye because you're immersed in the subject one hundred percent. At the moment I can't say that it is hard for me to study but I don't want to relax because after each lecture I have to do a quiz or do my essay. And I also want to note that in addition to individual assignments, we also have group projects that help develop necessary skills, such as teamwork, leadership, and creativity.
