“Wadhwan” was a small Forted village in Saurastra region of Gujarat, on the southern bank of the river “Bhogava”. This village itself was a kingdom and ruled by “Wghela family”.
Later British Army camp was set on the east bank of the river and named “Wadhwan Camp”. This army camp latter took a shape of a township and renamed “Surendranagar” on the request of then crowned prince of Wadhwan H. H. Surendrasinghji Waghela, after his own name.
River “Bhogava” has spanned about 1.3 KM across, and was flowing those days. [Now it is dried and has very little stagnant water.] There were thick jungles; the area was lush green and very fertile, growing all kinds of grains, pulses, cereals, oil-crops, vegetables and fruits. Teeming with wild-life like; at list 4 kinds of deer, wild ass, wild pigs, and birds like Peacocks, pheasants, and hordes of other birds, reptiles like cobras, pythons, rat snakes, monitor lizards of two kinds, crocodiles, also lions and leopards. Such an area was very rich in natural resources. Farmers had cows and buffaloes for milk and sheep and goats for wool and meat, an ideally rich place to live and make living.
Surendranagar is now a district place.
Making it green again is entirely in your hands.
