The word 'Mulund' is originated from the name of the ancient city 'Mul - Kund'.
Up until the fifties it used to be a part of neighboring Thane city. The Bombay Municipal Corporation then took it under its ambit as part of its expansion plan during the fifties.
Mulund holds the distinction of being the only planned suburb of Mumbai. Designed in the year 1922 by a planner Crown & Carter to accommodate 10,000 people. “Mangalapuri” was town planned by visionary Land owners of Mulund who consisted of senior people of locals "Maharashtrians". (Marathi speaking community)
To the West are the Yeoor Hills & to the East is the Thane Creek. The suburb falls on the Central Line of the local Mumbai suburban railway network & is the eighteenth station from Chp. Shivaji Terminus.
Its one of the most cosmopolitan suburbs & perhaps the most Green as well.
Currently Mulund is the hottest property to live in, in the central suburbs.
Mulund is also the end of Mumbai after which Thane begins.
