Trombay Island, one of the historic original islands that make up the Greater Bombay metropolitan region. Among the landmasses that are now covered by Bombay city, Trombay is second is size affter Salsette Island. Originally, the island could be circumnavigated by boat, but today that is difficult except perhaps during the rainy season. The sea channels separating Trombay island from its neighboring islands are now reduced to filth-choked streams - the Mahul Creek on its west, separating it from the former Parel Island, for example.
Trombay is famously the site for the first nuclear power station in India - at the Bhabha Atomic Research Center, started by Homi Bhabha. The facility is also called "Anushaktinagar" or "Nuclear Power City"
