The Beegaon dam on the river "Bhains" which in distorted form is called vihigaon and mhees is a big water body in the Balapur area of 'Barar' or anglicised 'Berar'. The water seldom reaches the fields in the Balapur and Khamgaon area of Akola and Buldana district of western Barar. This dam is on the historic route of Great Mughal Emperor 'Aurangzeb Alamgeer' who used this path to reach 'Golkunda' (Golconda). Later on the Marathas used this route in their in-fights after the demise of Sivaji, the rebel of Indian Empire. Ultimately they lost out to the British after aiding and opposing them simultaneously against Tipu Sultan and Bhonsale of Nagpur and Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi. The remains of Maratha who aided the British are at Satara and Gwalior and are still called 'Meha Raja' meaning the bigger Raja, although there were no Rajas for them to call self 'Meha'
