Strictly protected area (surface - 4125 ha) of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve.
Characterized by biocoenoses developed on the dry sand banks on the seashore or on the shore of lake Razim and also by biocoenoses adapted to major salinity variations.
It's a prefered area for nesting to the following: mud-dwelling species, common shelduck (Bisericuta Island), laridae & sternidae (halophyle sand banks), being an important refuge for resting and feeding to the winter 'guests'. It's also the preferred refuge during the daytime migration for the Red-breasted Goose (Branta ruficollis).
