Мемориал Алеша

The Primorsk Square is a “town gate”. Its core is a 27-metre high monument to seamen of the North Sea, heroes of the defense of the Polar Region during Great Patriotic War. The monument was unveiled in 1973. A bronze sailor stands on a pedestal shaped as a submarine deck-cabin. Bronze bas-reliefs listing the most distinguished units and ships of the war are mounted at the side faces of the pedestal. A 130 millimetre cannon is erected on the Northern hill near the Primorsk Square – this is a monument to artillerymen of the 221th sea battery of the Northern fleet, who ruined the first hostile ship on June 22, 1941.
