Kocevski rog

The Karst scenery of disturbed and eroded limestone, pitted with numerous sinkholes and abysses, characterizes this extensive mountain chain of typical Dinaric direction, which is approximately 35 km long and 15 km wide. It is mainly covered with beech and fir forests. Below the peak of Veliki Rogthere are remains of the Auersperg sawmill, which was deserted prior to World War II. The densely forested area enables the survival of large mammals such as the brown bear, wolf and the lynx - the latter of which were resettled in the forest in the 1970's.
