Kars

The town of Kars (, Карс) is the only access point to the ruins of the ancient capital of Armenia, Ani, which is now located just inside of Turkey. It is the capital of the Kars Province which holds a mixed population of Kurds and Turks.

Despite the fact that there is a mosque just a stones throw away from it, the Surb Arakelots Cathedral was converted into a mosque in 1998. It still needs restoration and repair, however, and is covered in weeds.
